Interview: Joanna, Recruitment Manager at WD

Joanna, Recruitment Officer, spoke to us to find out more about her role at WD international.

A recent arrival, she is responsible for recruiting and monitoring employees. At the same time, she's constantly on the lookout for new tools to boost the teams and recruitment.

 

What was your background before joining WD international?

I have a bachelor's degree in Business and 12 years' experience in telephony. I worked for an official distributor of several brands such as Huawei, Sony, etc.

Before joining WD international, I did a work placement with the Rocher group. Today, I'm a recruitment officer and I'm also studying for an Executive Master's in Human Resources (HR) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the Sorbonne Business School.

 

Could you describe a typical day in your job?

Once I've defined the company's needs, I post new recruitment adverts and start analysing the CVs from previously posted adverts.

As we receive a lot of applications, I first have to filter the CVs to make a shortlist. I then call the candidates who seem to me to be the best match for the advert in question, and I continue to select CVs for interviews.

Finally, I set the dates for the interviews and conduct them, before debriefing the head of the department concerned.

My work as a recruitment officer also involves meeting candidates. I do Job Dating at schools and take part in other meetings to find interesting profiles. I make contact with schools to set up partnerships, and we are currently partners with 11 schools.

I recruit for France, but also for the international office in Spain. This office brings together the teams responsible for the various European markets where WD international operates, including Spain, Italy and Germany.

 

What do you like about your job?

I like the contact with candidates, especially young people. I like their dynamism and their vision. They dare to try out different things and are very interesting.

They come from very different backgrounds and I learn new things every day. For example, I'm discovering new qualifications that could be of interest to our employees.

What is your relationship with international candidates?

Things are different with international candidates. I make contact in English and work with Christian, our international office sales manager. We advertise in English and I translate the CVs.

Then I contact the candidates in English and check that they have a good command of English, because that's essential if you want to join the international team. I also have to adapt to the cultures of each country, as well as finding out about the legislature, which is different.

 

What future do you see for your career?

First of all, I'm aiming to pass my Master's so that I can continue my studies with a doctorate, because I'd like to go on to university teaching and research.

 

What are your plans for WD international?

I'd like to develop the HR area, as well as social responsibility and relations between employees/managers/directors. I'd also like to create a skills repository so that we know where we stand in relation to the market, but also integrate a training system for our company's employees, so that we're always up to date with the latest training and can remain efficient and competitive.

 

Which profiles for WD international?

At WD international, we're looking above all for people with personality, but also for dynamic, motivated people who enjoy a challenge and who have a good team spirit, because we all work together in an open space!

We also currently have a permanent sales position available in Spain. We're based in Barcelona, so a good command of French, but especially English, would be ideal. I analyse all applications carefully, so don't hesitate to apply!
